WWDC Design Sessions

Since my first year at Apple, I’ve been involved in developing and delivering sessions for the Worldwide Developer Conference, affectionately knows as WWDC, or “dub dub.” These sessions take months to research and prepare to achieve the exacting standards that Apple is known for.

I developed the concepts for all four of our WWDC presentations. Our first two, in 2022 and 2024, covered the foundations of UX writing best practices.

I presented “Writing for interfaces,” with a partner from a different team at Apple, allowing us to present a true cross-company perspective on UX writing. We created a helpful acronym of PACE: Purpose, Anticipation, Context, Empathy.

“Add personality to your app through UX writing,” goes one step further, introducing the concepts of voice and tone, and provides practical exercises for learning how to flex both. I led development of this session, recruiting and coaching our speakers.

“Make a big impact with small writing changes” gives developers some quick tips for polishing their UX writing. I based this concept on the type of coaching I give when mentoring new writers, or when I’m thinking about how to improve my own work. I presented this session with a member of my team.

The idea for “Craft clear names for features and labels in your app” came straight from past conversations I’ve had with developers at WWDC, who often struggle with knowing what to call menu items, features, settings, and so on. Again, I developed and coached this session, and the presenter is on my services UX writing team.
